Happy Tax Freedom Day!

Happy Tax Freedom Day!

Today marks the first day of the year Americans would actually start working for themselves (as opposed to the government) if our tax burden were paid up front. Three months and 22 days to pay off our “debt” to the government. Very nice. To celebrate, watch the video below. For more information, the Tax Foundation is a good place to start.

“Happy” Tax Day to you all. No, that’s not the “correct” definition of tax for today, though it’s not far off. Funny how close they are in practical terms. I hate April 15. Every year as I submit my taxes, I pray I haven’t messed something up that will cause an obscene amount of pain and financial anguish should the bogeymen of the IRS come knocking. Years ago, Jay Leno, in his monologue said something like this: “Bill Clinton said he dreams of a day when people can call the IRS and get a straight answer. Well, I dream of a day when you can call the IRS and get a disconnected message.” I agree, and there is hope, if ever so faint.

But, to bring a little mirth to this dreary and dreadful day, I bring you an ode to the product that has taken at least some of the fear of Tax Day away, Turbo Tax:

RSS (and Leftist Wackos) Killed the Slashdot Star

RSS (and Leftist Wackos) Killed the Slashdot Star

After (too many) years of reading Slashdot fairly regularly, today I removed it from my feed reader. The signal-to-noise ratio has gotten really, really bad (and has been forever), and I finally got tired of it. Far too often, a story about some piece of technology, or law/policy regarding technology, for example, inexorably leads to hard-left screeds about the Bush, the Republican Party, etc., even when there’s no clear link. And if Intelligent Design is ever mentioned, you can rest assured that people of faith (though ID in no way demands a faith of any kind. More on that in another post) will be betrayed as stupid, buck-toothed, back woods inbred imbeciles. These days, the site is a complete waste of time and bandwidth. I can get the same info, much less noise, and certainly fewer insults from my 100+ feed strong reader.

“Hi. My name is Jason, and I’ve been Slashdot-free for 15 minutes now.”
“Hi, Jason!…”

I missed my calling

I missed my calling

I just found this REALLY cool Greek Study Bible website and pointed it out to a couple friends of mine who are also students of Koine.  One of them noted that, on this site, verbs are highlighted in red and nouns in blue.  He felt this contradicted the popular romantic poem.  My efforts to show that this was not the case led me to afflict the world with my attempts at poetry (ish):

More Hard-to-Understand Lyrics

Another one of my all time favorite bands is Saviour Machine.  Like the aforementioned 311 song, I decided I’d read the lyrics as the song played.  Not that they’re hard to understand, necessarily.  Just thought I’d do it.  Well, they may be easy to understand, but they’re far from being easy to comprehend.  To wit, from “Love Never Dies“:

Walk by faith and walk by sight,
You’re sanctified with blood and light,
In days of roses, nights sublime,
The prince of passion lives divine.

Love never dies – Love never denies,
Love never lies – Love desperately cries,
Unto the other side,
Unto the unborn child in your eyes.

I think that’s quite a pretty couple of stanzas there, but I’m not sure what he’s saying.  Is anyone else seeing a trend here?  Maybe I am an idiot… 🙂

I should register saviourmachineinterpreted.com, put mediaiwki on it and just let people at it. 😛

How can he say stuff like this without laughing?  We. They.  Stupid race card and victim mentality.  Apparently, even multi-millionaire sports stars aren’t above saying stupid things like this. 😐
